Q3: What kind of media institution might
distribute your media product and why?
A
production company is a company that provides projects and works of artists in
the realms of film, television, new media art, radio, performing arts and
video. If a production company earns major funding through large sources of
income (private investors, studio investors etc.), then it will be considered
as a major production company. These production companies work with well-known
stars that are popular amongst a large range of audiences, and people with
amazing talents.
Different production company’s own different
idents, these are the logos that always show up at the beginning of films.
Production company idents are also linked with different genres of film, for
example Walt Disney Pictures makes children’s films, starring both real life
characters and animations. Whereas, Warner Bros. Pictures makes young adult and
adult films, such as the Harry Potter series. The images portrayed in the ident
are normally coherent with the words shown too.
Our group
decided to take inspiration from two Production companies in particular:
Lionsgate and Paramount Pictures. We chose Lionsgate as one of our main sources
of inspiration because it has taken many interests into thriller films, such as
American Psycho and the Saw series. The type of films Lionsgate produce are
very sinister and dark, and rarely do anything uplifting or ‘fun’. Another
source was Paramount, which we chose because this production company deals with
many action-based movies, normally incorporating spies or characters related
with wealth and power into them, for example the Mission Impossible series, Top
Gun and The Wolf of Wall Street.
The company
that would probably produce our thriller would be Paramount. This is because
Paramount focus on action-thriller based movies, however do normally encrypt
humour into them, which isn’t what we want our thriller opening sequence to
portray entirely, but ‘tongue-in-cheek’ humour would be ideal to entice our
audience. This would attract our audience since most audiences remember humour
far better than the ordinary stereotypical thriller film, also it will make it
a bit more lighthearted and anti-stereotypical towards thriller conventions, as
most thriller films are very dark and sinuous, whereas our opening sequence is
not.
For our
company ident, we wanted the ideas to remain very simple, yet eye-catching. We
thought that this was exactly that, and it is bold and effective. We chose the
name Supersonic since we thought it was a catchy name for a production company
that features mainly thriller type films. Additionally, the ident incorporates
a simple sound wave in white to the left hand side of the writing, whilst the writing
(‘Supersonic Productions’) is written in a sans serif font, however both words
are different styles of font. We chose sans serif because it is modern and
bold, and appeals to a young adult audience.
